Skiing in Kyrgyzstan; Or at least trying to learn!

One of the the reasons I was so ready to come back to Kyrgyzstan in the middle of an admittedly chilly winter was for the ample snow-sport opportunities that abound around here. While all the snow and ice and cold may not be so exciting when crunching around the slick sidewalks of Bishkek, it all pays off when I manage to get out to the mountains.

Community-Based Tourism in Kyrgyzstan: A Home from Home.

Community-Based Tourism in Kyrgyzstan: A Home from Home.

One of the best (and the worst) things about travelling is working out where you’re going to stay;

Hotels are a great option – whether offering the comfort of home or a quirky take on a local theme, you generally know what you are getting and have a good place to lay your head and settle down for the night.

But in some of those locations further off-the-beaten track, staying in a hotel is just not an option and other possibilities have to be found.

Golden Nature of Altyn-Arashan

I think, I been in Altyn-Arashan more than twenty times. And I wish to go there again and again. Now I live in a good place, where the air is cleanest in the world.

Back in Time in Kochkor

The “highlight” or our sightseeing tour in Karakol was the town’s Lenin statue where we girls got our picture taken which very much amused the locals. There were a number of other statues from Soviet time but I have no idea who those people are. Another “highlight” was the main street of the town. At least there were some people to watch.
