Kyrgyzstan’s Independence Day Holiday: Celebrating Nomad Style

Holidays are always an awesome time to travel, and Independence Day is a particularly fine festivity. No matter whether Hot Dogs and Fireworks for the 4th of July in the US or Military Parades on Bastille Day in Paris, Independence Day holidays are usually a combination of patriotism and tradition and more than a little raucous celebration. But of course, not every country can celebrate with the panache of Kyrgyzstan.

A fascinating market at Osh Bazaar In Kyrgyzstan

2-jpgA fascinating market at Osh Bazaar In Kyrgyzstan : Places : BOOMSbeat

The city has three daily farmers’ markets, all fairly distant from the centre. Osh bazaar, 3km to the west on Chuy, though not very colourful, offers a glimpse of Kyrgyz and Uzbeks from the more conservative south of the republic. Produce is sold inside the main bazaar and all around the outside of the complex.

The best of Kyrgyzstan

You know how people always ask which, of all the countries you have visited, is your absolute favourite? I have now travelled in 50 countries but for me the answer is easy – Kyrgyzstan.  P5132968-1024x768

Would you ever go back?

Farrell’s company is going through some major changes and there’s a small but terrifying (but not end-of-the-world terrifying, and it’s a small chance, so any family emails related to this sentence will be ignored) chance that maybe Farrell could lose his job (but it’s small, probably unlikely, but you never know). This all made me think: scaled_0263

Summit for my sister: the two faces of Kyrgyzstan

All travel, all the time, most of the time

One thing I really enjoy about Bishkek is the presence of so much nature and so many quirky trips within the Chuy Valley where the city is located. One of these cropped-IMG_4854highlights is the old Soviet-Era health resort at Issyk-Ata.
