Community-Based Tourism in Kyrgyzstan: A Home from Home.

Community-Based Tourism in Kyrgyzstan: A Home from Home.

One of the best (and the worst) things about travelling is working out where you’re going to stay;

Hotels are a great option – whether offering the comfort of home or a quirky take on a local theme, you generally know what you are getting and have a good place to lay your head and settle down for the night.

But in some of those locations further off-the-beaten track, staying in a hotel is just not an option and other possibilities have to be found.

The do’s and don’ts of travel in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgystan: Central Asia, west of China and south of Kazakhstan. Dominated by the Tian Shan (Heavenly Cloud) mountainous range with verdant green gorges, tall peaks and high altitude lakes.

Through dramatically rugged mountains and fertile valleys on camel and horseback, China and the mysteries of the Orient beckoned ancient merchants and now you can experience this out-of-the-ordinary adventure. But before you saturate yourself in the Silk Road scenery of yore, here are some travel tips…

Are you inspired to get right off your beaten track, ride mountain ponies, hike trails of breathtaking scenery, stay in yurts with the mountain people and swim in alpine lakes? Kyrgyzstan ticks all these boxes and more:

Travel Prices in Kyrgyzstan

Travel Prices in Kyrgyzstan

I’ve traveled to a lot of countries, but there are a few that don’t make the cut for The World’s Cheapest Destinations book because most people can’t even find them on a map, much less figure out why they’d want to travel there. Today I’ve got a guest post on Kyrgyzstan, a place that even tripped up the U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry, who called it “Kyrzakhstan.”

Stephen Lioy tells me I’m missing a great place with great prices though, so he’s taking the reins today and showing off some nice photos too. Take it away Stephen!

Nomadic Matt’s Travel Site

I’m a twenty-something vagabond who has been on the road regularly since 2005. I’m a native of Boston, Mass but, lately, everywhere has been my home. After a trip to Thailand in 2005, I decided to leave the rat race and explore the world so I finished my MBA, quit my cubicle job, and, in July 2006, I set out on an adventure around the world.
