Trekking from Karakol in Kyrgyzstan to the Valley of the Flowers | Wandering Kiwi

The town of Karakol is a great base for a trekking holiday in Kyrgyzstan. There are a number of easy day treks, overnight trips or more extensive expeditions into the mountains.

Around the world in more than 365 days – follow me around the globe on my adventures.

Around the world in more than 365 days – follow me around the globe on my adventures.

“… each of us is given some seventy years, a decent amount of time and such a niggardly small gift when you have the eyes to see the gifts you must leave. In that time you shouldn’t be afraid to take out a year or two or even more to do something not in the straight path you originally chose. You shouldn’t be afraid to watch the slow turning of the stars and clouds and strange people, for although family, country, and abiding loves will never afterwards be holy, they will have become tender and subtle in unimagined ways.”

In the Shadows of the Tian Shan: A trek through western Kyrgyzstan

I was unfortunate to only be biten by the travel bug in 2005 when I joined the Peace Corps as Teacher of English as Foreign Language in Turkmenistan. Prior to this adventure I had only been out of the US on a week long trip to Puerto Vallarta Mexico and a couple of day trips to Canada. Since 2005 I have been in 8 different countries in Asia and have traveled all around Turkmenistan.
